AWO’s Safety Leadership Advisory Panel is excited to host our second virtual safety meeting, The Good, The Bad and The Safe, on March 17th from 2-4pm Eastern Time. We have rounded-up an expert panel to share best practices for new hire orientation safety training, including tips for onboarding new mariners’ families and a provision of materials that will ensure your orientation program covers required training topics.
As part of our expert panel, Rick Shwab, the Senior Director of Workforce Development and Education for the Maritime and Industrial Training Center at Delgado Community College will join us. Rick has been a leader in development, implementation, and management of high value corporate maritime training for over 26 years. He has been repeatedly successful in capturing new business and and establishing relationships with key decision makers. Rick's accomplishments include being honored as a New Orleans Citi Business Top 20 Most Powerful Maritime Executive in 2020, and national recognition as a 2021 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education, among many others.
Joel is the Vice Chairman for AWO’s coastal Safety Committee. He started his maritime career in 2001, working on passenger ferries in New London, CT before working as an unlicensed mariner and tankerman on bunker barges in New York Harbor with K-Sea Transportation. In 2007, Joel enrolled in New York Maritime College, graduating in 2010 with an unlimited tonnage third mate’s license. Joel shipped deep sea with Military Sealift Command and Master’s, Mates, and Pilots before joining Kirby Offshore Marine in 2012. With Kirby, Joel sailed in their coastwise ATB-fleet here on the west coast before coming shoreside as a Port Captain in 2016. In his role as Port Captain, Joel addresses the safety, compliance and operations of Kirby Offshore’s West Coast Fleet.
Coming ‘round the bend for the second half of the meeting, award winning speaker, Sharon Lipinski, will present ’20 questions’ designed to break through complacency and include your teammates in the process of constant improvement within your operation.
Sharon is an expert at turning knowledge into action. She has delivered hundreds of hours of instruction to audiences around the country, delivering unique and engaging experiences that result in measurable behavior change for her audience. Her organization, Habit Mastery Consulting, helps close the gap between organizational training and employee behavior by designing programs that stick.
