AWO Mariner Workforce Forum: Harnessing Apprenticeships to Grow Your Workforce

AWO's fourth Mariner Workforce Forum presented ways you can harness a Coast Guard-approved apprenticeship program to grow your mariner workforce. In this Forum, you'll learn about the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies' (MITAGS') "Maritime Apprenticeship Program" and hear how several tugboat, towboat, and barge operators are participating in the program.  

 

The MAP offers several pathways to train mariners with little or no maritime industry experience to obtain their mates' license in roughly 2 years through a combination of coursework and service on partnering companies' vessels. MAP is not only USCG-approved, but it is also approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs and eligible for veterans'/GI bill benefits.
