Condemned Mooring Fittings on Dock

While tying up the barge to KMI Seattle, the Mate on Watch stood by the manifold to spot the barge while the tankerman and utility went forward to put out spring lines.  Facility line handlers grabbed lines and used the nearest cleat to secure lines.  Vessel MOW recalled a previous port call at the facility where a terminal representative informed them that those "small cleats were condemned" and could not be used confidently to secure the barge.  The vessel crew discussed with terminal line handlers, and mooring lines were shifted to more suitable fittings for securing the vessel alongside.
